Why Give?
Matthew 6:24 NIV states, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
When we give our money to God, we are declaring that He comes first in our lives, and we worship Him with our giving. When we give, we are trusting in His Word. Jesus is our provider. Everything we have belongs to Him, and He has blessed us with it. In the giving of our tithes, we demonstrate our devotion to Jesus as our Lord and Savior!
What is a Tithe?
In Malachi 3:10-11, scripture tells us,
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.”
“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts”
A tithe—which just means “tenth”—is defined as the first 10% of a person’s income. When we bring our first and best back to God, He promises to bless the rest. We can’t out give God. He asks us to put him to the test! Not only will He bless us more than we could ever imagine, He promises to “rebuke the devour” for us. So, God will literally rebuke Satan on your behalf when you tithe! What is Offering?
Offerings are any gifts we give over and above the tithe. As our walk with God deepens, we begin to realize that all blessings come from Him. We desire for others to have what we have spiritually and want them to experience His life changing power.
It is through offerings that we are able to share this wonderful Truth with our city, our nation, and our world. It takes offerings given by the body of Christ to spread this Gospel to this world. Together, we give because He first gave it all to us.
How to Give?
Your motives for giving are important to God. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” II Corinthians 9:7–8
Give with the expectation that God will faithfully supply whatever you need, so that you can abound in good works!
